For the first time in two years I spent Christmas in California with my family and I took Ted with me.
The weather was gorgeous, my family and friends amazing, and showing Ted around Los Angeles was a blast but as always, my foodie inclinations are leading me in a different direction.
Before I do anything else I have to post about the food.
It’s not something I can resist.
We’re going to break this into two parts. First I’ll discuss the food we bought in restaurants.
It actually started with a surprisingly decent sandwich at the airport.
There’s so much food I love in LA and no trip home is complete without Rice Things in Redondo Beach
or OHOP- the Original House of Pancakes is greatly shamed by the International one
or Sam Woo in Chinatown where we inevitably put ourselves into food comas before seeing a show downtown.
and the place we dash off to as soon as we’ve landed- LBJ’s (El Burrito Jr) in Redondo.
The Kettle is an amazing place we used to visit twice a month when we were kids but I hadn’t been back there in at least six years.
I hadn’t been to Hollywood’s Yamashiro in quite a while either. The food is decent but overpriced.
If it’s your first time in LA or you’re there for a special occasion the view from the window justifies the amount at the bottom of your bill.
We met a friend at The Misfits Bar in Santa Monica. The drinks were delicious, the staff was awesome, the atmosphere was great, and the food was pretty good.
The only thing I warn against is this: Don’t let the ‘majority of the menu is small plates meant to be shared’ disclaimer fool you.
Lets just say we had way to much food.
There was also Red Medicine in Hollywood where we took my mom for her belated birthday dinner/Ted’s thank you for having him.
There is only one way to describe how incredible Lette‘s macarons are.
The day we stopped at their store in Pasadena, they opened at 11am and were sold out by 230pm. There was a line out the door and the women behind the counter couldn’t fill the trays fast enough.
I would have to say that my favorite new place of the trip was a bar we passed on the first day and returned to try on the last.
It’s a place on the main drag in Manhattan Beach called Simmzy’s Pub.
As promised, I’ll be back soon with equally delicious pictures of the wonders my mom works at home.
Until then!

I like the captioning you did on the photos!! Very magazine-esq! (p.s. very jealous you went to Rice Things … my one regret of the trip)
